There is this thing about range hoods …
Even though the hood insert is inside the hood, behind the 18 to 20-gauge thick walls of stainless-steel, it makes a lot of noise.
At times this noise can be way too much … like 70+ dB and you cannot help but feel the needs for cotton buds that you’d put in your ears to muffle that sound.
And at times you pick from available fan speeds to reduce the noise a few notches, but when you reduce the speed you also reduce the suction power of your hood and as a result you have to deal with a “smoky” kitchen with all kinds of odors.
So, what is the solution? The solution is a powerful hood that is quiet by design. That means, a hood that comes with a naturally silent hood insert with no compromise at speed.

Top Rated Quietest Range Hood Reviews
In this article, I’m going to review 11 best quietest range hoods and with the reviews, there will be a buyer’s guide, a comparison table and the answers to the FAQs that people always ask about issues related to a range hood’s noise.
Just like all other reviews, this one will also discuss in detail the pros and cons as well as the important features of all the products that I selected for this review.
You might find a few reviews similar to those that you’ve been reading before, but this would be only because a few range hoods are so good – in so many different ways – that they appear in more than one reviews.
The main category for the range hoods that I picked for this review is quiet range hoods, but there is more than one category that these range hoods qualify for. For example, you want a range hood that is quiet, but what kind of range hood is required?
This is where we show you all the categories – included “Best Quietest Range Hood”.
KOBE INX2730SQB-700-2 Brillia – Ultra Quiet Range Hood
As per KOBE’s product description (click the name above), this range hood creates only 1 sones noise. 1 sones is more or less 28dB. Now compare this with other range hoods that generate 63dB to 68dB and you can see the bigger and clearer picture. And I consider this best not only because it has the quietest sound, but because that comes at no expense to suction power.
Cosmo COS-QS75 – Best Overall
I have reviewed this rig in more than one review for more than one category. This is one of the best range hoods made by range hood manufacturing giant: Cosmo. It is powerful, yet it is quieter than many other range hoods and it has a modern and minimalistic profile.
Hauslane Chef Series PS18 – Best Under Cabinet
Now, you do realize what I mean by this. We are already doing a category review: the quietest range hoods. So, I am not switching from quietest to under cabinet at large, but this range hood is the quietest under cabinet range hood that you can get. It is powerful, it is modern and it is minimalistic.
IKTCH IKC01-36 – Best CFM
In case you want a quiet range hood, but you do not want to compromise on the suction power (especially when you need a hood for a restaurant), you should go for this range hood. It has 900 CFM suction power, but when it comes to the noise it creates, that’s still lesser than the most of hoods out there and on this list: 60dB.
Winflo’s W103C30_P – Best Convertible
In case you’re looking for a quiet range hood that is by default ducted, but can be later on converted to ductless too, Winflo’s W103C30_P is the best one. And while it is powerful in terms of suction, it is quiet too.

Now here comes the part that you were waiting for.
Here are the reviews.
My review criteria are 3-fold.
I test one or two products from a particular category that I want to review. Then I talk to experts on that niche – people who have been trying and testing a lot of equipment from that particular category. And lastly, I rely on the reviews given to such products by their verified customers (on Amazon for example).
Likewise, the reviewing criteria is also three-fold; I consider answers to the FAQs asked about each of the products that I review, I review them then based on their pros and cons, and their features.
1. Cosmo COS-QS75 – Quietest Ductless Range Hood
This is our best overall range hood based on its performance in all important sectors: noise, CFM, convertibility and design etc.
500 CFM Airflow
This range hood has 500 CFM airflow. This is exactly the sweet spot between 250 to 400 and 600 to 900 CFM – two extremes with either insufficient suction or too much noise. They intentionally limited this one to 500CFM which is enough suction power with moderate noise.
Speaking of noise it is important to mention that the maximum noise a Cosmo COS-QS75 hood can create is 65dB. This is equivalent to normal human conversation. However, you can reduce that too a few notches by simply choosing lower fan speed. There are in total 3 fan speeds and only the top speed generates 65dB sound.
Backlit and Touch Control Panel
This is a modern range hood. By terms of design as well as built. The control panel of this hood, for example, is a backlit and touch-sensitive one. Instead of pressing buttons, you can just touch an icon to switch on or off the hood, switch on or off the lights, pick from 3 different speed levels and set an auto-shut-off timer.
This hood is not going anywhere until you decide to get rid of it. It is made of 430-grade stainless-steel, known for impeccable corrosion-resistance, and 18-gauge thick steel lasts better than a 16-gauge one.
The system is convertible. Just buy the carbon filtration kit from the company and turn this into a ductless hood. It will then recirculate the recycled air (smoke and fumes) in the kitchen. The hood can be later turned into a ducted hood again if you want.
This hood has a moderately powered motor and there are two 1.5watts each LED bulbs. This means that this is an energy/cost-saving hood.
2. Hauslane Chef Series PS18 – Quietest Under Cabinet Range Hood
In case you want a really powerful range hood and that too to fix under your kitchen cabinet, this is the kind of range hood you should look for.
This range hood is a power-horse. 860 CFM means that you can use this range hood in any setting (home or restaurant) and for any type of cooking and you would not have problem because an 860 CFM motor assures very powerful suction.
In terms of design too this range hood is the best because it has a touch control panel while is backlit too. This is a very slim hood for a by-default ducted hood. The touch-sensitive controls allow you to switch on or switch off hood, pick between speed settings, turn on or off the lights and choose a delay timer.
6 Speed Fan
In case you want a powerful hood, but you want to be able to control the speed and thus control the noise this hood generates as well as the kind of cooking you can do, this is just the hood you need.
On its highest speed, this range hood only creates 63.8dB noise which is still lower than 65dB which most of the range hoods, even under-powered ones, create and which is equal to normal human conversation. This one keeps it lower with more speed settings.
Delay Shut-Off Timer
A delay shut-off timer shuts-off the hood at a previously selected time and makes sure the when you come back to the kitchen, there is no smoke or fumes in its air.
3. VESTA VRH-B1077S – Silent Range Hood
Since Hauslane’s power-horse has already been categorized as top under cabinet range hood, this one is second in line with 700 CFM and thus one of the best and quietest range hoods with this kind of power.
This is the second most powerful range hood on my list. 700 CFM makes it good enough for any kind of setting or cooking situation. You can use it in a restaurant’s kitchen and this will easily tackle doesn’t matter how much so ever smokes and fumes and odor would be there in the air of that kitchen.
3 Speed Levels
This range hood comes with 3 speed settings – a 3-speed fan. You can choose the lowest level to reduce the noise to its lowest possible level. Also, you can use three speed setting to sync your range hood with your cooking style.
Speaking of noise, it is important to mention here that the maximum noise that this thing can generate is 65dB. This is equal to the human noise. Which is still something that you can tweak with 3 speed settings.
Stainless-Steel Baffle Filters
This thing comes with stainless-steel baffle filters that are dishwasher-friendly and that will stay with you for a very long time. They are super easy to clean.
Simple and Easy Control Panel
The control panel of this range hood is an old-fashioned one. It has simple push buttons for everything. You can switch on or off the hood, choose between different speeds and turn on or turn off the light.
3 Installation Options
There are 3 different installations modes. There is one round duct hole on top, a rectangular vent on top and a rear rectangular vent.
4. Winflo’s W103C30_P – Quietest Wall Mount Range Hood
In case you are looking for a convertible hood that is quiet and your radius excludes the kind of products Cosmo makes, this one can prove to be the best range hood for your kitchen.
This range hood has 400 CFM and it can be considered ideal from many different ways. First of all, 400 CFM is not loud at all and it is more than 350, lower than which is considered an underpowered range hood. Secondly, due to its moderate airflow capacity, this range hood does not make much noise.
Even if you feel that the maximum speed setting makes your kitchen one of the world’s noisiest places, you can pick lower or the lowest speed setting. This feature helps in case your cooking is not too reliant on oil and spices.
Speaking of the noise, it is important to mention here that the maximum noise that this range hood can make (at the top fan setting) is 65dB – which is still considered normal.
Simple Control Panel
The control panel of this range hood is an old-fashioned, simple, push-button control panel. Just press the button switch on or switch off the hood, press any of the 3 buttons to choose from 3 different speed settings and press the last button to switch on or switch off the lights.
The filters of this hood are made of stainless-steel. They exist for a very long time – if not forever. The best part? You can wash them in a dishwasher or manually without having to exchange your filters every now and then.
2 LED Lights
This hood has two LED lights. The lights are pretty much standard, but it’s good that they’re included.
All you have to do is remove the stainless steel filters, install the carbon filtration/charcoal filters and choose “ductless” from the backside of this hood.
5. Imperial VT0500 – Noise Free Range Hood
In case you are sick and tired of those big, bulky and boring range hoods – all of whom look alike – this one will change the way you think about range hoods.
So this range hood is made very differently. Just like a building’s air conditioner duct, this range hood is constructed in a way that makes it 100% leak proof and air-tight. It is because of this why this range hood works like a charm in a room with hot, humid and damp air – for example a kitchen.
Weighted Damper for Prevents Back-Draft
This thing has a weighted damper that stops the heat and humidity in a room (smoke and fumes too) escaping from the rear vent of the hood. The damper on the backend is what works in case of this hood just like a hood insert does in case of a ducted one.
Galvanized Steel Construction
So what is galvanized steel? Galvanized steel is the steel that is zinc coated for better protection against rust and other such stimuli. Galvanized steel is more corrosion resistant than the 430-grade stainless steel.
Just install the exhaust vent hood at a 12” distance from the range, seal the joints, cap the system to protect from rodents and other such animals and the job is done.
6. Proline PLJW 185.36 – Noiseless Range Hood
Proline Power is not a very famous company when we talk about range hoods, but this company makes simplistic, easy to use and very functional range hoods that can even compete with Cosmo ones.
Slim and Stylish Design
Although this is a relatively new company when it comes to range hoods, its work is seamless. This range hood is a stylish hood that takes far lesser space when compared with many other hoods. It has a simple control panel like many of the old-style models from Cosmo.
As far as speed is concerned, this range hood’s suction power/speed is 600 CFM. This is more than normal or average range for a range hood’s airflow (350 to 500), so there should be no doubt that this range hood is perfect for home as well as office.
In case you think that a hood with a hood insert of 600 CFM can be too noisy, you should know that this hood has 4 fan-speed buttons. Choose from the lowest speed settings and reduce the noise a few more notches.
Speaking of noise, it is important to mention that even on the top most speed setting, this range hood only creates 51.2dB noise which is actually way lower than normal human conversation.
2 1.5watts LED Lights
This range hood comes with 2 1.5watts each LED lights; the lamps evenly distribute that light on the range.
7. Awoco RH-SP06-30 – Super Quiet Range Hood
Awoco is another new entrant to the range hood game and this range hood from Awoco proves that later, if not sooner, this company will be able to beat range hood giants like Cosmo and Hauslane etc.
Just like the Proline hood that I’ve reviewed above, this one is also a very slim, smart and stylish hood that takes very little space. The height is only 6” while steel thickness is only 1mm.
Split Blower Unit
This a unique type of hood and for this reason alone, it has already sold many units. There are ducted hoods with hood inserts and ductless ones that rely on carbon filtration, but this one is different. Its blower (hood insert in other cases) is fit on top of the hood and not inside it.
The power of the blower is 800 CFM. 800 is a lot because with this kind of airflow, you can easily take care of the kind of smoke clouds and odor a restaurant’s kitchen can create only within 5 minutes.
The blower is a 4-speed one and the speed can be selected from the front control panel. In case you want to reduce the speed for a particular type of cooking or just to reduce noise, you can choose the lowest setting.
Speaking of speed, the top most blower speed can create 60 dB noise, That is 5 points lower than the normal human sound and yet with lowest speed setting you can reduce this a few more notches.
2 3watts LED Lights
There are 2 3watta each LED lights that definitely work better than the 2watts or 1.5watts ones that most of the range hoods come with.
8. FIREBIRD RH0358 – Quietest Island Range Hood
Firebird is one of the best range hoods when you want an island range hood and a quiet one, but with a stylish outlook and slim body.
This range hood has a 343 CFM power which is almost on the edge of being “not-so-good”, but since we’re looking for a rather quiet range hood, 343 CFM might be just the speed that can ensure.
This range hood has a 3-speed fan. You can choose lower or lowest setting to reduce the speed, save more electricity and enjoy little to no noise.
Speaking of noise, I must mention that it was pretty disappointing to see that even after this low CFM, this hood’s maximum power is still 65dB. Which means that even with lower speeds, it’d be around 60dB.
Touch Sensitive Display
This hood has a touch sensitive display with options like fan speeds, light on or off and delay shut-off timer.
Tempered Glass Visor
Instead of a big and bulky stainless steel, what you get on top of the hood is a tempered glass visor.
4 1.5watts LED Lights
Instead of 2, this hood has 4 1.5watts LED lights and this definitely means a better illuminated range.
9. IKTCH IKC01 – Quietest Kitchen Range Hood
Speaking of new entrants to the range hood manufacturing game, we cannot miss out on IKTCH’s IKC01-36 because of its impressive design, amazing power and cool features. This is top CFM hood too.
So, in case you are bent on airflow/suction/ventilation speed and you have a big and messy kitchen at some restaurant that you need a really powerful range hood for, this 900 CFM hood will not disappoint you.
While it is 900 CFM and thus very powerful, there are 4 fan-speed settings that you can pick from. This helps you sync your hood with your way of cooking as well as control the noise pollution.
I personally find this hard to believe, but they say that this hoot, at its maximum speed, still generates maximum 60dB noise. This is way lower than normal noise that most of such hoods generate: 65dB.
Modern Display + Remote
This range hood has a fully digital, backlit (blue) display from where you can choose from the fan speeds, switch on or switch off lights and also tweak the auto shut-off timer.
2 LED Lights
This hood comes with 2 LED lights.
10. KOBE INX2730SQB-700-2 Brillia – Quiet Powerful Range Hood
In case you really hate that range hood sound and you want to dial it down to the maximum possible point where it would not affect the suction, but remain quiet, this is the hood to go for.
So, this range hood also hits the sweet spot. I call this a sweet spot because a range hood from 250 to 400 CFM might be underpowered for some particular cooking settings and styles, while a range hood from 600 to 900 CFM will only rarely be a quiet one.
This machine has a 3-speed blower. This means that you can always choose lower or lowest setting to enjoy the minimum possible noise and thus save energy too.
Now this is tricky. When I tell you the dB for other units, that is the maximum possible noise that those hoods can generate, but in case of this one we only know of the minimum possible: 28dB. However, any hood that generates 60-65dB can still not achieve 28dB even if you use the lowest speed setting.
This hood is made with very durable 18-gauge thick stainless steel.
Simple Control Panel
The control panel is very simple. There are simple push buttons. One of the is to switch on or off the hood, then three buttons for three speed settings and then another button to switch on or off the lights.
2 3watts LED Lights
Speaking of lights, this hood has 2 LED lights; each of those lights has 3watts power which means they are brighter than 1.5 or 2watts ones.
11. Golden Vantage RH0392 – Quietest Chimney Range Hood
This is the last range hood on this list; I consider this good because of a good combination of standard features that it offers.
So, this is pretty much an underpowered range hood considering that it cannot be used for a restaurant. There are exception and 350CFM in itself is not insufficient at all, but considering a restaurant’s requirements this is not enough.
This one had a 3-speed fan; you can choose lower speeds to reduce the sound.
This is something beyond my understanding; this hood should make less sound with a 350CFM motor.
Touch Control Panel
The control panel is touch sensitive with basic settings like speeds, lights and delay timer etc.
This range hood has mesh filters; they are not permanent, but they are considered good because their pores retain big amount of oil and grease.
4 LED Lights
There are 4 LED lights that illuminate your range better than those hoods that have only two lights.
So, how to buy a range hood that is good and quiet too?
Here is a checklist, make sure to buy a hood that ticks most of the boxes, if not all of the boxes.
It all starts with CFM. CFM is basically the suction power of blowing power of a range hood. Bigger the power, stronger the ventilation! However, big power also means too much noise. And if you go for low CFM hoods, it might not ventilate the smoke and fumes as well as you expect. Buy a hood with moderate CFM.
In case you like a very powerful hood (600 to 900 CFM), chances are that it would be a very loud hood. The problem is that if it does not have many fan speed control settings, you would not be able to control the noise thing.
But if a 700 CFM hood comes with 4 to 6 fan speeds, there are good chances that the lowest fan setting would make it go easy on your ears too.
This is not something that you can tweak, but look for dB or Sones when you buy a range hood. Anything less than 60dB is quiet.
65dB is equal to normal human conversation’s noise.
The problem is that 1 Sones is not equal to 1 dB. So make sure that you look at a conversion chart between these units.
1 Sones is 28dB.
Before I wrap this thing up, here’s a comparative table to put things in perspective:
|Hauslane Chef Series PS18||860||6||63.8|
|Proline PLJW 185.36||600||4||51.21|
Golden Vantage RH0392
As you can see, KOBE’s unit is the winner with very modest CFM (quietness guaranteed) and only 28dB which is what its lowest fan speed assures.
